Oconee Station

The outlying frontiers of South Carolina prior to the American Revolutionary War suffered from Indian attacks. In 1792, Oconee Station was built and consisted of a small wood and stone blockhouse. Circa 1805 a small military fort was established on the site to protect settlers in the upstate. Only two structures remain on the site and are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
